About Jhansi Rani

Rani Lakshmi Bai was one of the well-known leaders of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. She was a brave soldier who fought wars with the British. Lakshmi Bai was born on 19 Nov., 1828 in the town known as Varanasi.

Surname of her given as “Manikarnika Tambe” is termed nickname as “Manu”. Lakshmi Bai educating at home and was more liberal than other girls of her times. In 1842, she was wedded to ‘Raja Gangadhar Rao’, the King of Jhansi. In the year 1851, she bore a son, Damodar Rao. After death of the king, Britishers annexed Jhansi through doctrine of lapse method.

Lakshi Bai fought wars with the Britishers very bravely in order to save Jhansi. Rani Lakshmi Bai died on 18th June 1858 while fighting war of revolt against British.

About Queen Chennamma

Queen Chennamma was the first women freedom fighter for India’s independence. Chennamma battled with the British East India Company until her very last breath.

Queen Chennamma was born on October 23, 1778, in the Belagavi district of Karnataka. At the age of 15, Chennamma in marriage to “Mallasarja Desai”, the ruler of Kittur.

Unfortunately, Mallasarja Desai dies-Even the ruler of Kittur and husband of Chennamma.

The responsibility and protection of Kittur fell upon them on the shoulders of Rani Chennamma.In the year 1824, after the death of her husband, queen Chennamma adopted ‘Shivalingappa’.

  • Imposing the Doctrine of lapse on Kittur, after some time it got annexed by Mr. Thackeray.
  • This action was opposed by Rani Chennamma and other local people.
  • Rani Chennamma died on 21st February 1829 in her fight against the Britishers.
